The Court of Protection team is regarded as one of the leading practices in the country for health and welfare matters. The work is varied, meaningful, and often ground-breaking, involving issues such as capacity, residence, care, contact, and medical treatment under the Mental Capacity Act.

The Role:
You will manage or assist on a busy and fascinating caseload of health and welfare Court of Protection work, including:

• Section 16 and 21A applications
• Best interests decisions (including medical treatment and residence)
• Deprivation of Liberty (DoLS) cases
• Advocacy in the Court of Protection
• Advising and representing family members, litigation friends, and the Official Solicitor

You will work closely with senior practitioners on complex and sensitive matters, with the opportunity to develop a specialist profile in this area. The team is collegiate and experienced, with a strong track record of promoting from within.

Requirements:

• A qualified solicitor with 1-5 years' PQE, ideally in Court of Protection (welfare) or public law
• A genuine interest in mental capacity law and representing vulnerable individuals
• Excellent legal research, drafting and advocacy skills
• Empathy, resilience and a strong commitment to access to justice
• A collaborative and proactive approach, with the ability to manage your own files with supervision
