A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Court of Protection Solicitor with 1-5 years' PQE to join a highly regarded and specialist team at a respected London law firm. The Court of Protection team is regarded as one of the leading practices in the country for health and welfare matters. The work is varied, meaningful, and often ground-breaking, involving issues such as capacity, residence, care, contact, and medical treatment under the Mental Capacity Act.
The Role:
You will manage or assist on a busy and fascinating caseload of health and welfare Court of Protection work, including:
- Section 16 and 21A applications
- Best interests decisions (including medical treatment and residence)
- Deprivation of Liberty (DoLS) cases
- Advocacy in the Court of Protection
- Advising and representing family members, litigation friends, and the Official Solicitor
You will work closely with senior practitioners on complex and sensitive matters, with the opportunity to develop a specialist profile in this area. The team is collegiate and experienced, with a strong track record of promoting from within.
Requirements:
- A qualified solicitor with 1-5 years' PQE, ideally in Court of Protection (welfare) or public law
- A genuine interest in mental capacity law and representing vulnerable individuals
- Excellent legal research, drafting and advocacy skills
- Empathy, resilience and a strong commitment to access to justice
- A collaborative and proactive approach, with the ability to manage your own files with supervision
