Employment Solicitor - 1-4 years PQE - Top 100 Firm - Birmingham

The Firm

This Top 100 firm advises businesses across construction, energy & resource management, higher education and financial services, complementing their market leading position within housing, local government and health & social care.

The firm currently employs over 600 people, including over 90 partners, and they have an award-winning employment team. Equally, they are awarded in other areas, including construction, commercial, corporate, property, regulatory, employment, and litigation.

On a cultural level, the key focuses for the firm are community and engagement; environmental sustainability; well-being; and diversity and inclusion. These commitments are evidenced through regular events, talks, and surveys that take place across all those topics, and there are opportunities to get involved in pro bono and other charitable work.

Recent successes include 'Law Firm of the Year' at the Law Society Legal Awards and The Times 'Best Law Firm to Work For'.

The Department

The firm's Employment Team works across a range of sectors and has experienced year-on-year growth, working with a fantastic portfolio of clients, many of whom are household names. The team is national, so you will find yourself working with a variety of colleagues; they have a collaborative approach.

The team acts mainly for employers; the roster of clients includes national and multi-national organisations, and the team manages their workforce issues as well as defending employment claims and seeking to mitigate risks for clients.

The Role

The firm is seeking an Employment Solicitor with 1-4 years of PQE to join their Birmingham team.

The primary focus in this role will be working in sectors such as commercial services, higher education, financial services, and housing. There will be other opportunities through your career here to work across the health and care sectors as well as local and central government markets.

You will manage your own caseload across both contentious and non-contentious work areas and work with and support a number of leading partners and other colleagues.

The work you'll do will surround matters such as internal disciplinary/grievance/capability processes, reviewing policies and procedures and contracts, advising on equalities obligations, the conduct of and/or support of employment tribunals, advising on TUPE processes, including the drafting of commercial agreements, as well as delivering training on a broad range of employment issues.

On the contentious side, the team's experience is exceptional, and whether in the Tribunal, the EAT, the Court of Appeal, or the High Court, you will have the chance to be involved in ground-breaking employment litigation.

The Candidate
You will be:

  • Employment Solicitor: 1-4 PQE with experience in a range of contentious and non-contentious employment work
  • Experience in the management of Employment Tribunal cases
  • Experience in advising on employee relations issues, including settlement negotiations
  • Reviewing/drafting policies
  • Contractual and policy advice
  • Senior exits
  • Experience in advising on restructures/redundancy processes, and TUPE issues

Further, some advocacy experience is desirable but not essential.

If you're looking for a new opportunity, this is an excellent chance to join a leading employment team based in their Birmingham office, with a very flexible approach to hybrid working.
