Our client develops, builds, owns and operates sustainable energy infrastructure assets, working across the full project lifecycle from origination and development through to construction, operation and long-term asset management. The business works closely with investors, funders, contractors, public-sector bodies and joint-venture partners, operating within a multi-entity structure that includes overseas interests. The culture is collaborative and commercially focused, with legal embedded in day-to-day decision-making rather than operating as a remote advisory function.
The Role
Our client is seeking a Legal Counsel (5+ years PQE) to join its in-house legal team. This is a broad, hands-on role supporting the business across commercial contracting, projects and transactions in a fast-moving infrastructure environment.
The Legal Counsel will work closely with senior management and stakeholders across development, finance and operations, providing clear, pragmatic legal advice that supports commercial objectives. The role requires regular travel, primarily between Glasgow and London, with additional UK travel as required.
Key Responsibilities
- Drafting, reviewing and negotiating a broad range of commercial contracts, including supply, services, construction-related and operational agreements.
- Supporting the legal aspects of energy and infrastructure projects from development through construction and operation.
- Advising on corporate and transactional matters, including acquisitions, disposals, joint ventures and group structuring.
- Providing legal support on financing arrangements and working alongside external legal and commercial advisers.
- Advising on governance, risk and internal approvals.
- Managing and instructing external counsel efficiently and commercially.
- Supporting the Head of Legal and wider legal team on complex or strategic matters.
Candidate Profile
Essential
- Qualified solicitor (UK or equivalent) with 5+ years PQE.
- Strong experience in commercial contracts and negotiations.
- Comfortable operating in a lean, high-growth environment.
- Confident working directly with senior and non-legal stakeholders.
- Willingness to travel regularly as required by the role.
Desirable
- Experience in energy, infrastructure, utilities or construction-related sectors.
- Exposure to M&A, project finance or private equity-backed businesses.
- Prior in-house experience, particularly within a growing or asset-intensive organisation.
