Planning Solicitor | NQ-2 PQE | Southampton
Imagine starting your career in a place where the work you do actually shapes the world around you. New neighbourhoods, regeneration projects, coastal development, green infrastructure. Every decision starts with smart planning advice, and this team sits right at the centre of it.
This Chambers and Legal 500 recognised Planning team is growing, and they're looking for a Planning Solicitor (NQ-2 PQE) to join them in Southampton. If you're someone who loves the mix of law, land, environment and development, this is the kind of role that gives you both hands-on experience and the support to grow fast.
The Planning Team
You'll be joining a team that works with national developers, landowners, lenders and local authorities, helping them navigate the planning world from both a legal and commercial angle. From your first weeks, you'll be involved in real projects: major residential schemes, strategic land deals, environmental advice and site acquisitions. You'll learn directly from experienced partners and senior lawyers while taking ownership of pieces of work that matter.
What You'll Be Doing
- Drafting and negotiating planning obligations, including Section 106 agreements
- Supporting on planning applications, due diligence and strategic advice
- Advising on environmental considerations like natural capital, biodiversity net gain and EIAs
- Helping the wider Real Estate Development team with planning issues on major transactions
- Getting involved in the team's growing natural capital practice
- Working closely with clients from day one, building confidence and long-term relationships
Most of your work will be non-contentious, but you'll also get exposure to appeals, reviews and wider environmental issues.
About You
- Qualified Solicitor or CILEX (NQ-2 PQE)
- Some experience in planning, environmental or real estate work
- Strong communicator with good technical skills and attention to detail
- Curious, proactive, and eager to build a career in a specialist planning team
What You'll Get
- A strong, supportive team where junior lawyers learn quickly
- A mix of high-quality planning and environmental work
- Hybrid working and the chance to visit the firm's London and Bournemouth offices
- A balanced environment that values both people and performance
- Direct client contact and space to grow your own practice over time
If you want to start or build your planning career somewhere you'll be trusted, supported and given room to grow, this is a great step.
