Are you a private equity partner or a counsel-level with a solid portable clientele in the private equity space? Are you interested in leading a private equity practice in a firm with the right attitude to the growth of such a practice? This opportunity is for you if so.
The Firm:
My client is a known entity in France having had an office in Paris for at least the last 8 years, and having begun its operations as a UK regional firm from the outset. Due to its continued growth and expansion this is now very much an international law firm, boasting a full-service offering and working with a clientele base worthy of recognition. The firm's key strengths are in insurance, corporate, energy and mining but it continues to grow it's overall impact in the legal market and is looking to further expand its operations into other sectors. Whilst it may not be as prestigious as some of the more familiar brands, it certainly continues to pack a punch.
Due to the corporate and M&A side of its activities, the firm has realised that there is a need for it to be able to service clients overlapping in the Private Equity space. It is thus looking to grow its team hereto.
The Opportunity:
This is very much the beginnings of the journey for this firm in terms of its desire to build a private equity practice. The time is right for it to do so, and it feels that such a practice would very much fit in well, and support, the teams in its existing tax, competition, employment, acquisition financing, restructuring and corporate departments.
For the successful candidate this is an opportunity to drive and grow a private equity practice with the full support of a firm that wishes to invest in exactly such a practice. Whilst the opportunity is more likely to support someone who is already a partner, this would also suit someone who is currently Counsel-level looking to become partner with a decent clientele base.
The Candidate:
The type of profile for this position and with whom my client would be interested in speaking with would be individuals specialised in Leverage Buy Outs (LBOs), Management Buy Outs (MBOs) and more generally transactions involving acquisition financing of various forms.
In terms of clientele, such a team could advise (i) investment funds specialised in this type of transactions, (ii) management of companies subject to these types of transactions and would therefore have experience in the structuring and negotiation of management packages or (iii) founders who will have both the issue of the sale of their shareholdings and the issue of structuring and negotiating their future in the company in case they stay after the sale.
This firm is very collegiate in its approach and is a mid-market firm; whilst it continues to be in growth mode, it's growth ambitions are realistic. The opportunities for someone to come in and be a part of those growth ambitions are 1/ immediate and 2/ exciting for the right of type of candidate looking to help make a significant dent in the private equity legal market.
