Senior Legal Counsel - Procurement

Our client is a growing organisation in the banking sector, supporting customers across mortgages, savings, and business finance. With a focus on accessibility and innovation, they are on an exciting journey to strengthen their legal team and are now seeking a Legal Counsel to support the Head of Legal.

The role
The Legal Counsel will play a key role in providing both strategic and hands-on legal advice across a variety of projects. The focus will be on technology and commercial contracts, working closely with stakeholders across the business as well as with external suppliers and partners.

Key responsibilities

• Draft and negotiate commercial agreements, including outsourcing, IT, agency, marketing, and supply contracts.

• Provide legal advice on commercial issues relating to banking operations, data protection, and financial services regulations.

• Support the Head of Legal on multiple projects and collaborate with procurement and other business teams to deliver initiatives.

• Contribute to the development of templates, playbooks, and training for internal teams.

• Identify and manage legal risks, offering clear and pragmatic advice to protect the business.

• Keep up to date with relevant legal and regulatory developments and share best practice across the organisation.

Your profile

• Strong knowledge of commercial legal and regulatory issues impacting the banking industry.

• Experience drafting and negotiating IT and outsourcing contracts (SaaS, PaaS, IaaS, licences, framework agreements).

• Confident project management skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.

• Strong relationship-building and influencing skills, with the ability to engage with both internal and external stakeholders.

• Capable of working independently, with in-house experience preferred but not essential.
