Switch off on days off
06 Jun, 20245 minutesPlanning a holiday this summer? Does your holiday cocktail include an extra splash of work guilt?
A UK study last year found that more than a third of legal professionals worked on their days off. Twice as many as workers in other sectors.
A legal career is competitive and there can be a pressure to be available for clients and associates 24/7.
So here are some tips on how to prevent work overshadowing your summer holiday:
- Plan ahead so your workload is under control
- Tell clients and associates when you’re away and set expectations
- Delegate your work to those who can properly support you
See your holiday as a chance to give your mind the silence and restorative space it needs to be creative and see things from a fresh perspective.
As Maya Angelou once said:
“Each person deserves a day away in which no problems are confronted, no solutions are searched for. Each of us needs to withdraw from the cares which will not withdraw from us.”
